Connecting people to parks and nature in East Baton Rouge Parish since 1946, BREC contributes to a healthier, more vibrant community by providing exceptional parks, open spaces and recreational experiences. Through its unique mix of parks and facilities, programs and initiatives, BREC acts as a provider, protector and problem solver throughout the community.
From increasing green infrastructure, serving during natural disasters and enhancing connectivity to addressing the community’s physical and mental health and wellness needs, BREC’s parks and recreational services lay the foundation for our thriving community.
Every March, BREC joins park agencies nationwide in applying to the prestigious Gold Medal Awards program to compete for the National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. Applications are separated into seven classes, with BREC competing in the Class 1 Recreation category – the largest category that includes agencies serving communities with populations over 400,000.
Once applications are submitted and judged, the four category finalists must submit a five-minute video summarizing the park system’s application and share that video with the community – that’s where we come in.
By having an established relationship with the park agency, our video team already had a library of top-notch content from over the years highlighting BREC’s programs, events and stellar parks and facilities. The next piece of the puzzle? A script to navigate viewers through BREC’s story.
Our copywriters reviewed video footage and gathered information from BREC’s initial application, its master plan, its strategic plan and its latest Play Book. Once all facts were checked, they wove together an insightful and inspiring story that took audiences on a journey of BREC’s passionate efforts to reimagine Baton Rouge parks and improve wellness and engagement throughout all corners of the community.
The results? A gold medal video for a gold medal park system.
